Adventure of Paperman II: Paperman's Quest (2002)
Welcome back, Paperfans! As we continue to celebrate the new year, we will continue our exploration of my humble beginnings and introduction to the world. If you read my blog post last week then you know that The Writer first created me on April 20, 2001. The day that is now celebrated as Creation Day in Paperworld and is basically our New Year Holiday. If you did not read it then scroll down for a second, check it out, and then come back.
Now that every one is on the same page, I will let you know that today I am posting my second adventure that The Writer wrote a year later on January 22, 2002. You might have noticed reading the previous story (if you didn’t then you’re apparently very stubborn or just don’t like me) that myself and Rip jump off the pages onto which we have been drawn and there is no mention of Paperworld or any other characters. The story you are about to read is where Paperworld, Master Pencil, and Scissorz make their first appearance. I talked to The Writer about changing Creation Day to January 22nd since it’s when Paperworld is first created but he assured me that it was more about the idea of this world of drawings being created that was important. I didn’t argue much since it’s my birthday.
But anyway, here is Adventure of Paperman II: Paperman’s Quest. Also as a side note, you may notice some weird words in the story. This is because The Writer wrote this as a school assignment (that’s right, school is good for something!) and had to use certain “vocabulary words” or something like that. So, stay in school! Write stuff! Here’s the story!
One fine day in Papertown, Paperman was relaxing in his Paperhouse. Suddenly the Paperphone rang, and as you have already guessed he answered it. It was the Master Pencil, the Master Pencil is the master of all of Papertown. It was the only Papertown in the world I might add. The Master Pencil sounded very upset and asked Paperman to come to him immediately. When Paperman arrived in the Master Pencil’s presence, the Master Pencil told him what had happened. It went something like this:
“I was just filling out some documents when the evil Scissorz, who has the power to cut anything out of paper or cardboard and it comes to life and follows his orders, broke in and stole the Sacred Pencil Sharpener!”
When he was finished, Paperman asked, “Do you know where he would have taken it?”
The Master Pencil answered, “He probably took it to the Lava Mountains!”
After their conversation Paperman received a few gifts from the Master Pencil to help him on his journey. They were: a boomerang, a heat-proof vest, and some tape to heal minor wounds. When Paperman had received these gifts he set out on his journey. Then he arrived in Computerville to ask the Quiz Master for supplies. When he arrived at the Quiz Master’s temple he was stopped by the guard, whose name was Pencil Maniac. Pencil Maniac told Paperman, “You can only pass through here if you beat me at a drawing contest.” Paperman was a little annoyed at this, but he said alright.
He received pencil and paper and on Pencil Maniac’s mark they started drawing. It was not long before both of them were finished. Then they both looked at each other’s drawings. Paperman thought Pencil Maniac’s drawing was grotesque, but Pencil Maniac was proud of it none-the-less. Pencil Maniac then collected the papers and them in the sorting machine and Paperman’s won. Very grudgeingly Pencil Maniac let Paperman pass. When Paperman entered the room he was greeted by Quiz Master. When Paperman told him what he wanted, the Quiz Master told Paperman he had to beat him at his game. Paperman was again irritated at this but said okay. The Quiz Master asked the first question, “How far are the Lava Mountains from here?”
Paperman answered almost immediately, “Just outside Computerville.” He was correct.
Then Paperman asked his question, “Who am I?”
Since Paperman had not introduced himself Quiz Master gave up, admitting defeat. This meant Paperman won. Then Quiz Master gave Paperman his supplies, which Paperman thought were pretty gaudy. They were a bag of marbles, scissors, and a piece of paper, which Paperman could cut anything out with it and it would come to life. Paperman said thanks for the supplies and was on his way.
When Paperman reached the Lava Mountains he saw Scissorz not too far away about to drop the Sacred Pencil Sharpener in a lava hole. Paperman thought quickly and threw his boomerang. It hit the Pencil Sharpener, which sent it flying, and landed right between Scissorz and Paperman. They both ran for it. Thinking quickly Paperman pulled out his marbles and rolled them at Scissorz. Scissorz then stepped on them, falling and sliding, he collided with Paperman. Paperman, only receiving a minor injury, pulled out his tape and fixed it. By then Scissorz had already gotten to the Pencil Sharpener and shouted, “Ha! You lose, Paperman!” Then Scissorz quickly cut out a paper creature called a Shreddar, which could shred through almost anything. Paperman then remembered his paper so he quickly cut out a wall of fire, which the Shreddar ran into. Then Paperman ran as fast as he could and caught up with Scissorz, who was right next to a lava hole about to drop the Pencil Sharpener in. When Paperman tripped Scissorz making him fall into the lava hole, Paperman grabbed the Pencil Sharpener and returned to Papertown. At his arrival there was much rejoicing among the people. The Master Pencil was especially happy. In honor of Paperman they had a party. The next day Paperman arrived back at his house, and everything was peaceful for a week or so. When the paperphone rang again, Paperman answered it. It was the Master Pencil…
There you have it! My second adventure ever! I love a good cliffhanger too! Can you believe that The Writer only received a 95 on this assignment! I think it should have at least received a 100 or 200, or whatever. But as you may have noticed, Paperworld has changed a bit since the time this story was written. For one thing, Computerville is gone. We had a Y2K thing a few years after your world and they didn’t make it. Which is sad, because I liked Quiz Master. I didn’t much care for Pencil Maniac, though. He kept challenging me to drawing contests. He never got over me beating him and went a little insane. More insane, actually. I hope you enjoyed the story! Tune in next week for more of my awesome adventures!
